LayerZero is supposed to be the first real parallel execution layer blockchain. Using ZK proofs allows validators not to repeat the same transaction execution over and over, but to only validate proofs. That could be a big breakthrough for blockchain performance and scalability.
ETH is also (finally) pivoting to scaling L1 and abandoning rollups. Solana right now is processing the most transactions, but it's well known how expensive it is to run nodes, index and validate data. LayerZero promises to solve this.
