Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. election ushered in a market frenzy that sent bitcoin above $100,000 for the first time.

The largest #Crypto , invented by pseudonymous developer Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, now has a market capitalization of nearly $2 trillion. Bitcoin’s price more than doubled in 2024, easily outpacing the 35% return of the Nasdaq Composite Index for the year.

Investors have been piling into bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies based on expectations that the Trump administration will introduce friendly regulations for the sector. Trump has vowed to make America the “crypto capital of the world.”

Bitcoin’s meteoric rise this year was also helped by the launch of the first U.S. exchange-traded funds in January from BlackRock, Fidelity and others, allowing investors to invest in the token as easily as buying a stock. Collectively, the 11 bitcoin ETFs have attracted more than $110 billion in assets.
