Shopify adds stablecoin payments: The e-commerce giant will allow merchants to start accepting Circle’s USDC token payments on-chain. Sellers can then convert these into local currency settlements without incurring additional fees for foreign transactions. Shares of stablecoin issuer Circle jumped more than 180% in their first day of trading, reaching a market value of $17.8 billion as investors rushed into the first big crypto initial public offering under President Donald Trump. Circle Shares Soar 180% in Blockbuster IPO

Circle is becoming a public company at a time when the field of stablecoins has suddenly become very crowded with more competitors lurking on the sidelines. Most obviously, Circle faces competition from Tether, the biggest stablecoin issuer with $154 billion outstanding, Paxos, another stablecoin issuer, and fintech and banks. Trump’s family crypto project World Liberty also issued a stablecoin, called USD1, whose adoption was boosted by MGX, a Middle East sovereign wealth fund, which used the tokens to make a $2 billion investment into Binance.

Circle has raised its IPO price range from $24 to $26 per share to $27 to $28. And it has greatly boosted its expected primary (9.6 million to 12.8 million) and secondary (14.4 million to 19.2 million) share sales it expects in the transaction. More shares at a higher price? Yes, Circle is going to go public worth more money than we expected. Final pricing will come on June 4th with trading the following day.
